If the fan turns at all without forcing, it should spin when powered up. If the fan turns freely or not is not a definitive indication that is good or bad. Share.

I think if you can find the motor test data for your existing motors and look for motors in the same performance ballpark, you should be able to get away with a different motor brand/model. Another thing is that dshot protocol should be able to auto-calibrate the differences in the motor output/performance.
