WebSCID (Severe Combined Immunodeficiency) is caused by a mutation of the gene encoding the enzyme adenosine deaminase (ADA). These patients have non-functional lymphocytes and so they cannot mount immune responses against invading pathogens. ADA is involved in purine metabolism.
