On the eve of the First World War, Treptow was called into active duty. He soon found himself fighting in France on the Western Front with the 168th Infantry of the 42nd division. WebbMartin A. Treptow was a young and obscure American private killed in France in World War I. Treptow was born January 19, 1894, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, near Bloomer, where he grew up. He was working as a barber in Cherokee, Iowa, when the United States entered the war in 1917.
